TIRANA, May 20 /ATA/- Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania Natasha Ahmetaj appreciated the banknotes a significant part of the national identity. Attending the event under topic, “Treasure Curiosities: the Art of Albanian Banknote” hosted by the Central Bank this weekend in Tirana, in the context of the International Museum Day 2017, Ahmetaj said that, “The museums and similar events serve to convey a stronger message of national identity and national consciousness through the art of Albanian banknotes. The numismatists taste the images and colors of the banknotes. Through these pieces of paper they are able to distinguish epochs and scale of social freedom”.

Technical Assurance Manager and painter at De La Rue Company Mark Bundy was a special guest to the event. De La Rue Company has realized the majority of Albanian banknotes as well as producing them. The painter Bundy presented his experience in the art of sketching, conception, drawing and then designing contemporary banknotes as well as used techniques and illustrated all with photos and sketches. During his presentation, Bundy emphasized that it had been impressive recognition with the historical figures of the Albanian nation and designing them on the Albanian banknotes implying in this way that the contribution they made in the economic, social and political field of the country should not be forgotten by the coming generations.

Further on, the museum head Shpresa Lubonja made a presentation, “Commemorative coins: a way to promote the historical and national values”.

It was part of the event even an exhibition of sketches and other materials about designing of Albanian banknotes.

Irrespective of the daily contact with the banknotes, there are few the people who know the history of symbolic figures on them or the story of their production. In this context, the Museum of the Bank of Albania opened since October 30, 2015 brings an added value.  Since then, more than 4 thousand visitors have got acquainted with the historic and numismatic values of the coins and banknotes from antiquity to present-day.

Like the museums all over the world, the Museum of the Bank of Albania is open this weekend for all interested visitors./m.m/p.s./
